The Computer Science Department provides quality programs at all levels of study, and its faculty and students seek to excel in research, scholarship, and applications in fields where computation is of significant importance.

We prepare students who can make a difference in a rapidly changing
world. In addition to computer science, we offer interdisciplinary degrees in Applied Computer Science and Bioinformatics (through the College of Arts and Sciences), as well as a variety of courses supporting other programs and the community.
Our programs build on solid foundations and on laboratory experiences to provide our graduates with a stimulating combination of knowledge and effective computing skills that enable them to become effective problem solvers. Summer Camp for Girls The Computer Science Department is planning to offer a Computational Thinking Summer Camp for Girls from July 20-24, 2009. Visiting Faculty Position Available Applications are invited for a Visiting Associate Professor of Computer Science. The appointment will be for one academic year beginning August 24, 2009, and may be renewed for up to two years. CS Students Earn Best Paper Award CS students Yunyue Lin and Xiaoshan Cai received the Best Paper award at the 4th International Symposium on Innovation and Real-time Applications of Distributed Sensor Networks being held in Hangzhou, China, from May 18-21. Department Welcomes New Postdocs Several postdoctoral fellows from around the globe have recently joined the Department to work on a variety of projects.
