The Computer Science Department provides quality programs at all levels of study, and its faculty and students seek to excel in research, scholarship, and applications in fields where computation is of significant importance.

We prepare students who can make a difference in a rapidly changing
world. In addition to computer science, we offer interdisciplinary degrees in Applied Computer Science and Bioinformatics (through the College of Arts and Sciences), as well as a variety of courses supporting other programs and the community.
Our programs build on solid foundations and on laboratory experiences to provide our graduates with a stimulating combination of knowledge and effective computing skills that enable them to become effective problem solvers. Dr. Shiva Visits China for Keynote Address Dr. Sajjan Shiva delivered a keynote address on "Knowledge Management in Global Software Development Environments" at the International Symposium on Computer and Sensor Networks and Systems, Zhengzhou, China, April 7 – 10, 2008.
Postdoctoral Position Available The Networking Research Lab at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow position. A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. WiSe MANet Lab Sweeps University Research Forum Awards The Wireless Sensors and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (WiSe MANet) Lab led by Dr. Santosh Kumar won both the first and second prizes at the University Research Forum in the Graduate Category. 2008 Programming Challenge The 2008 University of Memphis Programming Challenge was a great success. CS Research Day Winners Winners in the presentation and poster categories of the Computer Science Research Day have been announced. Java User Group Meeting CS students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the next meeting of the Memphis/Mid-South Java User Group.
