The Workshop on the Question Generation Shared Task and Evaluation Challenge aims primarily at establishing a community consensus with respect to a shared task evaluation campaign on Question Generation. The outcome of the workshop will be a detailed plan for preparing a shared task on Question Generation as part of Generation Challenges 2010.
As a secondary goal, the workshop aims at boosting research on computational models of Question Generation, an area less studied by the natural language generation community. Question Generation is an important component in learning technologies such as Intelligent Tutoring Systems, inquiry-based environments, and instructional games, so the workshop could have broader impact on improving the teaching and learning of STEM disciplines through improved educational software applications. Advances in Question Generation will have ripple effects in learning technologies that rely on Question Generation to provide quality education to students of various ages and disciplines.
